Watch “Awake” by Electrolift Creative (music by Panda Sanchez)

My musical doppelganger, Panda Sanchez, was especially thrilled to receive a ping from filmmaker Matthew Taylor, co-founder of Electrolift Creative, a premier media and video consulting firm located in Washington D.C.

Embedded is a Vimeo link to a short film he directed titled, Awake, featuring the excerpt of a “sound-collage” I recorded in 2007 dubbed “Crows Perched On Parking Meters“. Continue reading

IHL Music Notes: Mick Harvey, Girl Band, Kurt Vile, Majical Cloudz

“I Wish That I Were Stone” is the mascot track from former PJ Harvey collaborator Mick Harvey‘s sixth solo album, FOUR (Acts of Love), out via Mute April 29th in the UK and June 11th in the US.  Give the track a spin in the embedded SoundCloud player below.  According to Mute’s copy on the forthcoming LP, FOUR is a bittersweet meditation on romantic love; “its loss, re-awakening, our ongoing struggles with it and its place in our universe.”  The album is divided into three acts and plays out as a continuous song cycle.  Unsurprisingly, PJ Harvey makes a canorous cameo on the track, “Glorious.”  Harvey’s renown is three-fold: His career with The Birthday Party and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds; his soundtrack work on Chopper, To Have And To Hold and Australian Rules; and his production acumen on PJ Harvey’s Mercury Prize winning album, Let England Shake.  [Via Mute].

Ducktails’ Official Video for ‘Letter of Intent’ is Smooth

The single is part of their 2013 LP, The Flower Lane (DominoRecords).  For the uninitiated:  Ducktails represents Matthew Mondanile’s mellow side project, a turn from his more ubiquitous outfit, Real Estate.  Here, we have an appropriately insouciant female vocalist who looks like she’s watched The Royal Tenenbaums one too many times.  My favorite part is the random saxophonist — oh, and how the clarinetist is Macaulay Culkin’s doppelganger:
