Watch “Awake” by Electrolift Creative (music by Panda Sanchez)

My musical doppelganger, Panda Sanchez, was especially thrilled to receive a ping from filmmaker Matthew Taylor, co-founder of Electrolift Creative, a premier media and video consulting firm located in Washington D.C.

Embedded is a Vimeo link to a short film he directed titled, Awake, featuring the excerpt of a “sound-collage” I recorded in 2007 dubbed “Crows Perched On Parking Meters“.

To your bespectacled narrator, the video is a coy take on the growing overlap between artificial and human consciousness, particularly as we surge toward an increasingly technocratic, posthuman singularity in the coming decades.  Of course, I might be overthinking it.  I tend to do that.

Fun facts about “Crows”:

1. I was inebriated when I recorded it — often an amusing mindset to be in while delving into a recording session.

2. The bell sounds were sampled from the struck rods of an antique clock.  My father is a watch repair technician.  That explains that.

3. The off-tempo pitter-patter in the background found the employ of a friend’s djembe put through a couple choice delay plug-ins.

4. I was never quite convinced that the guitar progression in this track used legitimate chords, but I intentionally left the steel strings slightly detuned.

5. A microKORG was involved — the one synth that survived my recent move to Seattle.
