Track Awareness: “Without You” by White Blush

As a musician, I’m often taken aback by the raw talent of budding artists that sprout their butterfly wings into the collective digital consciousness of the Web.  And as intimidating as newcomer recording artist Carol Rhyu’s work may be, I’m thrilled that she contacted me with the release of her debut single, “Without You” (produced by John Ho) — embedded below for your melancholic listening pleasure (’cause every Thursday afternoon needs a somber listening experience curated by someone that’s admittedly “read too much Nietzsche and Schopenhauer in college”).

Hailing under the moniker, White Blush,  “Without You” accomplishes what so many synth tracks fail to:  Convey heart.  Underneath this track’s dream pop synths; mid-tempo beats; and Rhyu’s disarmingly resonant vocals (reminiscent of Asobi Seksu), lies an aesthetic that’s organic and unafraid to emote.  An experience that’s typically absent in much of the electronic music I frequent today.

Check it out:

Lastly, from their press kit:

White Blush’s second single will be released by the end of May.

Be sure to espy my link notes and like/follow White Blush on FaceBook and Bandcamp; and help spread the word.

Definitely reminiscent of Asobe Seksu, mix in some early Hugo Largo. Thank you for this post. I look forward to their full release.

  2. Wow. This makes me think of late Japan (think “Ghosts” on Tin Drum) meets Kate Bush. If I got high, I’d do it to this. As it is, I’m drinking a nice moscato to it instead. Lovely writing, as always. Just say “thank you,” Richard Sanchez.
